Interventions

Interventions are small group or one-to-one activities that are set up to address a specific area that a child may be experiecing some difficulty with.

Our class teachers oversee the progress and development of the child no matter who is leading the intervention.

Each intervention has a distinct purpose and works towards very specific targets or outcomes. The following is a selection of the interventions, but not an exhaustive often used at our school:

What is the IDL System?

It a web-based programme that has the following benefits:

  • Specialist literacy computer programme, designed to support Reading and Spelling.
  • Multisensory approach involving sight, hearing, touch and voice.
  • Structured, sequential, cumulative learning programme.
  • Repetition and overlearning opportunities are integral.
  • Students work through a series of graded typed lessons based on a story format, interspersed with comprehension, grammar and spelling rules exercises.
  • The IDL system contains over 900 lessons and has helped thousands of students make superb progress in reading and spelling for over 20 years.
  • It also teaches students to work independently and to review and check their work.

By the end of year 4 (age of 9) all children should know their tables and the corresponding division facts "off by heart".

This is the expectation of the National Curriculum and it vital for good progress in Maths.

Tackling Tables uses 3 colour phases to make this ideal a reality!
Blue Phase
1x; 2x; 5x & 10x
(by end of year 2 - age 7)

Green Phase
3x; 4x & 8x
(by end of year 3 - age 8)

Red Phase
6x; 7x; 9x;11x & 12x
(by end of year 4 - age 9

By regularly playing the Tackling Tables cards, children will not only learn their tables but also understand the relationship between multiplication and division.

These cards are available to buy in school, please see Mrs. Ashton in the office.
