COVID-19 Free School Meals
Do you think your child could be entitled to free school meals following a change in your circumstances due to COVID-19, but you are unsure how to apply?
Free school meal entitlement is not directly linked to your universal credit and must be applied for separately.
Families who receive certain benefits may be eligible for free school meals. Your child is eligible for free school meals if you’re in receipt of one of the following benefits:
• Universal Credit with an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400 (£616.67 per month).
• Income Support
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• The guarantee element of Pension Credit
• Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for the four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
• Child Tax Credit (with no Working Tax Credit) with an annual income of no more than £16,190
All children in reception, years 1 and 2 would normally receive a free lunch whilst attending school, this is known as Universal Free School Meals. The new government free school meal voucher scheme introduced during the COVID-19 school closure period, does NOT extend to these year groups, unless they are entitled seperately on a benefits basis.
Did you know you are still able to apply for free school meals entitlement if you meet the above criteria, even when your child is already receiving universal free school meals? Currently this entitlement runs until the end of your child's primary education even if your circumstances change. Therefore, your child will continue to receive a free meal at school once they enter year 3, until the end of year 6.
If you are eligible, you will also start to receive vouchers during the school closure until such a time that school reopens or the government informs us otherwise.
If you think your child is entitled to free school meals it only takes a few minutes and one form to apply.
If you meet any of the above criteria (even on a temporary basis due to COVID-19), please complete the attached form and return to Mrs. Barber at email@example.com. She may need to contact you to gather a little more information or to assess your entitlement criteria. Mrs Barber will then contact the Pupil Access team on your behalf.
Please note: It is the Lancashire Free School Meals team who make the decision about a child's eligibility, so school will need the requested information on the form to complete the application. It is not a process we can carry out over the phone, as we need to send the data to them.
Free School Meals (FSM) Voucher Scheme - 09.04.2020|
Although the original indication was that any voucher ecodes would be sent on 8th April 2020, there has been a delay with their delivery, which is unfortunately out of our control.
This is a delay with the scheme itself. As soon as we have any further information we shall contact all of those parents/carers who have children eligible for FSM, with an update.
Please continue to check your email accounts (including your junk folder) daily to ensure you do not miss the ecode when it arrives.
Today you will have received either a call or an email, if you had not already completed the FSM eform on our website.
Anybody who was able to provide us with a valid email address has been registered with the Department for Education's preferred supplier EdenRed. Tomorrow you should receive an email (please keep an eye on your junk folder just in case) providing you with an ecode to use and instructions on how to use it.
Each eligible child will receive £15 per week during the school closures. This is not applicable for Universal Free Infant School Meals.
If you have any trouble redeeming your ecode, please don't hesitate to contact the school office. We have attached an FAQs document for parents/carers.
The email will provide you with a 16 digit code to use at www.freeschoolmeals.co.uk. Unfortunately there are a number of scams out there at the moment so please stay vigilant during this process. We will not use any other providers unless we tell you first, so please only enter your code at www.freeschoolmeals.co.uk. No valid scheme will ask you for your bank account, credit card or personal details... so do NOT give anybody this information if asked in relation to FSM vouchers.
COVID-19 Free School Meals Provision|
As some of you may have read in the news recently the government have introduced a new national voucher scheme providing those families who currently qualify for FSM, on a benefits basis, with food vouchers to replace the food parcels received this week.
The vouchers are term time only as is the current provision at school and therefore we are working hard to ensure that these vouchers will be ready for distribution from Monday 20th April 2020 (there will be no food parcels during the two week Easter holiday). As we have not yet been provided with any indication that school will reopen after the Easter holidays, we are working on the assumption that we will still be closed.
The FSM vouchers will be distributed in 1 of 2 ways:
In order for us to start registering our parents/carers, we need to know if you have a valid working email address. If your child is entitled to FSM (this does not include infants who only qualify for universal free school meals) please complete the below form to provide us with your email address, please also make sure you tell us your child's name and year group.
